New Residential Colleges
In spring 2008, the Yale Corporation voted to establish two new residential colleges—a landmark commitment that opens our premier college experience to more people than ever before. The new colleges will emulate Yale’s proven model, with a master, dean, fellows, and students forming a close-knit family, supported by the highest caliber public and private spaces for living and study.
An area of campus bounded by Sachem, Prospect, and Canal streets will accommodate the colleges. The facilities will use the familiar vernacular of Yale’s central campus, incorporating spaces for living, diverse extracurricular pursuits, and academics. The new colleges will expand the undergraduate student body, adding roughly 200 students to each class and relieving pressure on existing facilities.
Alumni, parents, and friends wishing to support this expansion will find numerous opportunities, not only touching on the facilities themselves, but including new faculty support, financial aid, and programs needed to serve a growing student body.
