Over a decade in the planning, the new Haas Family Arts Library reflects and meets the changing needs of teaching, research, and learning in the arts at Yale. The new facility brings together and consolidates collections, staff, and other resources previously distributed across the Yale campus. It houses the collection of the Drama Library, the Visual Resources Collection, and the Arts of the Book Collection, and their staff and services, as well as the Art + Architecture Library, which had outgrown its space in the Art + Architecture Building many years ago.
The Arts Library features a variety of spaces for individual study, group study spaces equipped with current technology, a large electronic classroom, and secure reading and teaching spaces for Arts Library special collections. The Special Collections Reading Room, a dramatic feature of the central two-story atrium, enhances interdisciplinary studies by realizing a long-planned consolidation of the many important special collections of the Arts Library. This exciting new facility will become both the physical and intellectual center for the pursuit of research, teaching, learning, and practice of the arts at Yale.
