  Multiple opportunities

Silliman College, opened in 1940, is a stately assembly of several buildings – the Vanderbilt-Scientific Halls erected in 1903, Byers Memorial Hall built in 1903, and several buildings newly constructed in 1940 to complete the courtyards and address the special needs of a residential college. It is the largest of Yale’s residential colleges and architecturally the most complex.

Because of its size, the rooftop-to-basement renovation of Silliman College was completed in stages. During the summer of 2004, the slate roofs and windows were replaced, rooftop dormers were installed, and portions of the exterior brickwork were repaired. The summer of 2005 saw the full renovation of the interior of the VanShef Tower. The remainder of the renovation was completed during the 2006–2007 academic year. As with previous residential college renovations, the project was designed to preserve the College’s distinctive architectural features, while altering interior spaces to better suit students’ academic, social, and lifestyle needs.

Although the renovation is complete, there are numerous recognition opportunities available to alumni, parents, and friends who wish to support the revitalized Silliman College.
