International and Area Studies Council Support Fund

$ 250,000   10 opportunities

Each of the MacMillan Center’s nine councils: African Studies, Committee on Canadian Studies, East Asian Studies, European Studies, International Affairs, Latin American and Iberian Studies, Middle East Studies, South Asian Studies, Southeast Asia Studies represents an academic collaboration between faculty members and students from a range of disciplines. Although these councils pursue Federal funding, they also rely on the funds provided by the MacMillan Center for much of their programming. The councils provide a range of interdisciplinary academic curriculum as well as programs such as film showings, lectures, lunchtime seminars, and gatherings of the international community at Yale. Funds can be used to expand opportunities for students and faculty to invite guest lecturers, hold regionally focused cultural events, reading groups and a range of other activities essential to maintaining a superior academic environment. Graduate students associated with the councils would also greatly benefit from funding to attend academic conferences in their fields of interest. Named council support endowments can support any of the councils, and can be tailored to support specific council programs.
