International Visiting Professorship

$ 2,000,000   3 opportunities

The opportunity to host visiting faculty in international studies has several benefits for Yale students and faculty. Visiting scholars uniformly bring and share new perspectives and experience, often assist Yale students undertaking research in their countries, and serve as recruiters of outstanding students. Visiting scholars extend Yale’s reach into cultures and institutions. The presence of visiting scholars in the academic community provides faculty with the opportunity to form cross-institutional collaborations that result in mutually enriched scholarship. The visiting scholar program allows the MacMillan Center to bring in faculty to address pressing global issues, for example, last year Yale hosted two prominent South African scholars who taught courses and presented lectures on economic inequality and HIV/AIDS in southern Africa, which has led to several students pursuing research in South Africa, and ongoing collaborations. Visiting scholars participate in research groups, teach innovative curriculum, and mentor students, making them a vibrant and essential part of the international community at the MacMillan Center. Endowed funds for visiting scholars may be established for scholars from specific areas or having specific academic specialties, e.g., South Asia, or development economics.
