Although statin drugs, vascular stents and cardiac bypass have significantly improved our success in eliminating and treating cardiac disease, this constellation of disorders affecting the heart and blood vessels still remains a major killer. Yale will continue to perform research in this arena, focusing on developing treatments for vascular disease, coronary artery disease, and heart failure, as well as diseases that affect the cardiac muscle, the heart valves, the aorta, and the normal electrical function of the heart.
