Recent years have seen an unprecedented growth in our understanding of the biology of cancer and the molecular and cellular mechanisms that cause a cell to become malignant. This has resulted in the development of new treatment modalities that continue to improve survival and extend lifespan in patients with cancer. However, cancer has not been eliminated, and many patients are not cured once their cancer has spread. The Yale Cancer Center will focus on continued basic research to expand our understanding of why cells become cancerous and how this process can be prevented or reversed. Then through clinical research we hope to translate these results into therapies.
