Special Needs Fund for International Students

Many international students have not been in the U.S. before and require special assistance, particularly now that Yale is admitting international undergraduates on a need-blind basis. The current financial aid awards to international students do not always provide adequately for travel home, support during term breaks, and miscellaneous expenses. Because some new students have neither family nor personal resources to meet all of the essential “settling in” expenses, including books, winter clothing, computers, and personal supplies, they struggle financially. This endowed fund would help cover emergency needs and also could be used to increase financial aid levels to meet these special circumstances.
