Yale Center for New Theater
$ 10,000,000 1 opportunity
Long recognized for pioneering achievements in American theater, Yale School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre have founded the Yale Center for New Theater, a program designed to strengthen theatrical training and provide unparalleled support for the creation of new plays and musicals for the national stage.
Established with a seed grant from the Robina Foundation, the Yale Center for New Theater directly invests in the future of the American theater through the annual commissioning of new plays and musicals by emerging and established playwrights, and by supporting these commissions through all stages of artist-driven development, including residencies, readings, workshops, and full productions. The Yale Center for New Theater also facilitates playwrights’ residencies as lecturers at the School of Drama, and the development of curriculum in writing for the musical theater at Yale.
Support for the Yale Center for New Theater builds upon a tradition of excellence at the School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre, and will enhance Yale’s impact on our national theater. The Yale Center for New Theater will provide artists with the time and resources to create new work, and build a larger community of playwrights, composers, lyricists, and directors, promoting professional training in every discipline of the theatre. A gift to endow the Center will ensure that this transformative initiative will continue in perpetuity.
