Institutes--Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, and Microbial Diversity

$ 50,000,000   5 opportunities

At Yale, the establishment of interdisciplinary research institutes promises revolutionary advances in basic science as well as in the quest for new treatments to improve human health. To date, Yale has announced the establishment of institutes in the areas of cancer biology, cell biology, and microbial diversity; future plans call for institutes for systems biology and chemical biology.

The West Campus is ideally positioned to support interdisciplinary research bridging chemistry, biology, and the physical sciences. Using laboratory facilities and core instrumentation already in place, these institutes will serve as incubators for new ideas and help to accelerate the translation of basic science into new treatment options. To maximize the potential of West Campus institutes, new endowments are needed to bring the best people to Yale and support their activities. Endowments offer a steady flow of funding to recruit leading scientists; sustain innovation in ideas and techniques; ensure the flexibility to respond quickly to unexpected opportunities; and maintain operations at the highest level of efficiency.
